Outside of Fortree City, a blue-haired ranger and their pokemon can be seen training. She pairs off her pokemon in duos: Hydreigon versus Roaring Moon, Blaziken versus Lucario, and Talonflame versus Lycanroc. While all of Mika's pokemon have distinct personalities, almost all of them share something in common. [break][break]

The will to get stronger. These six, in particular, have strong and determined battling styles, which will make even a practice battle full of hard-hitting attacks and merciless tactics. Still, Mika doesn't plan on letting her pokemon seriously harm each other, so even among their own excitement, she is careful to make sure that their attacks stay within reason. [break][break]

Amid flying dirt, scorched earth, and clashing limbs, Mika's gaze drifts from her own pokemon, to the skies above. "Hmm?" She raises a hand, and calls for her pokemon to cease battling each other for now. All eyes turn skyward, and her fliers begin to ascend when they see a foreign shape flying ahead. [break][break]

"See which pokemon it is before engaging." She passes the order onto her talonflame, who nods once. Sora flies upward, with San and Samsa following close behind him. [break][break]

A few moments later, and Mika's fliers return with a herded noctowl in tow. While a battle hasn't broken out yet, Mika knows that if she ponders the decision for too long, either the wild pokemon or her own will feel the need to let out some steam. [break][break]

She shakes her head, signaling with a hand up to the sky, index and middle finger pinched closed against her thumb. No. And at once, Sora screeches anew, diving away from the noctowl with San and Samsa following closely behind him. (But Mika hadn't missed the way that her Roaring Moon had glanced over its shoulder, sharp eyes narrowed to slits.) [break][break]

The noctowl flies off, and the ranger returns her attention to her team, giving each pokemon a little love and attention before returning to their training regiment. [break][break]

More time passes. If it hadn't been for the shock of bright blue in the corner of Mika's vision, she might not have seen the wild swablu at all. [break][break]

But she does notice it, and she turns her gaze to look upon the small singing bird, happily chirping away while it dons its cottony wings around itself, in an almost cocoon-like fashion. Mika beckons the creature closer to her, and smiles softly when the tiny bird lands on her outstretched hand. [break][break]

"Hello, there. Be careful, my friends are a little jumpy." And the swablu flies off shortly thereafter. As it does, Mika's gaze follows its silhouette in the sky, taking note of the sun's position in the heavens. It's almost time to leave. [break][break]

"Finish up, everyone." She announces to her team. There won't be much time left for wild pokemon to grace their presence, after all. [break][break]

As Mika and her pokemon finish their training session, a warbling cry from the nearby tree alerts them all. She turns her head, and her fiery eyes widen upon the sight laid before her. [break][break]

A wild rookidee, injured and prone on the ground. From the look of its wings, it appears injured, and its bruises indicate it must have fallen from mid-air. [break][break]

This reminds her of her time with ever blackwell a while ago, and how they'd cared for an injured taillow out in the wild in the same way. They exhale softly, reverent in the face of a similar situation, and approach the injured bird carefully. "It's alright," Mika says, "You'll be safe with me." [break][break]

She catches the pokemon, who is unable to truly resist her capture attempt, and attaches the pokeball to her belt with a nod. "Let's head back to town as soon as possible." And her pokemon are quick to reassemble around her, many of them disappearing except for her lycanroc and talonflame — eyes on the ground and in the sky. [break][break]

Mika mounts her lycanroc, and runs a head affectionately along its ears, muttering quietly: "Now, Komainu." [break][break]

The ranger and her team make a break towards civilization, and all is quiet once more. [break][break]
